What is the JCoS

We are a group of volunteers here to change the lives of Jewish Scouts in the Los Angeles Area.

There is nothing better than seeing these youth grow and change into the adults of the future with the values that Judaism and Scouting instilled into them.

To accomplish this we are active in the following:

  • We put on events that combine the values of Judaism and Scouting including a weekend retreat held usually over Memorial Day Weekend called Kinnus.
  • We help provide support for Jewish Scouts, Jewish Units, Jewish Chartering Organizations, and Non-Jewish Units that want help with supporting their Jewish Scouts.
  • We provide support for the Jewish Religious Emblems in the areas we serve.
  • We provide support for Jewish candidates and Brothers in the Order of the Arrow
  • We provide support for Jewish Leaders for training that allows for Non-Sabbath timing and for our dietary restrictions.
  • We do this all while adhering to the Torah, the Scout Oath, Promise and Law and making sure that all Jewish Scouts and Leaders in our area have comfortable access to our events and to the scouting training and programs while having fun in the process.

We have monthly meetings to plan these activities and figure out ways to support our Scouts and Scouters.  Our upcoming meetings are:

  • February 26, 2017
  • March 19, 2017
  • April 23, 2017 – 4th Sunday because of Passover
  • May 14, 2017
  • June 18, 2017
